What is a Mass Intention and why request one?

A mass intention is usually requested when there is a specific need. Whether the individual is living or dead, a Mass intention allows the priest and church to intercede in prayer on their behalf. You can have a Mass said for someone or in memory of them. The office staff will prepare a card for you to give to the person or family of the intention. “The intention of the Mass,” is announced in the parish bulletin at least one week before, and sometimes at Mass.
